Sang Royal COMPLETELY BUILT, FROM SCRATCH BY DAGATA MARINE The Sang Royal is the most recent major project that Dagata Marine has very proudly, completed. Dagata Marine undertook the project of building up this boat from just a bare hull. The vessel was originally constricted in Holland in 1946, it was first named Rimada, by a Dutch captain who commissioned the boat as a retirement pleasure boat. Unfortunately the captain passed away before he ever had the chance to sail her. The boat was then bought by a Greek Tycoon, who sailed her to Greece and put her to good sailing use, for 32 years. The boat was later renamed Meltemi and during this period the boat needed a complete overhaul so was sold to a UK company for chartering. She came to Malta purposefully for this re-fit, however it was abandoned ashore for 26 years. During this period the vessel was completely gut out and awaited a new owner. In 2004 the vessel was re-bought by a new owner and entrusted to Dagata Marine to completely rebuild her and bring her up to modern standards, while maintaining the integrity of the boat as much as possible. The boat was renamed the Sang Royal and today is highly admired in the Maltese archipelago. Dagata Marine, single handedly, was involved from start to finish in restoring this vessel back to life from a mere empty shell. This construction process entailed that Dagata Marine handled everything such as: sand blasting, priming, spraying, welding, deck-laying, interior design and construction, wiring & electronics installation, spars, rigging, upholstery and sails. Some further procedures undertaken were; the installation of a new rudder, installation of fuel, water systems, bow & stern thrusters and installation of the new engine. The sails were also constructed in house. For easy sailing Dagata Marine designed this vessel to be practically sailable single handed. To achieve this, the vessel was installed with 6 new Harken Furling Systems. This ensures that the sails may be stowed away quickly, efficiently and avoids the inconvenience of having sails hanging over the deck. The vessel is configured with two Yankee Flyer sails, one Genoa, one Flying Fisher, one mid-ship staysail and one main sail. Dagata Marine is particularly proud, because by using clever engineering the company has managed to use standard Genoa furlers to accommodate the special needs of this particular vessel. Special emphasis was made for the main sail in which the furler was converted to function in a vertical position without disrupting the operation of the boom. In order to preserve the Schooner layout of the vessel, Dagata Marine designed the sails to squeeze in as much sail area as possible, which in turn also compensates for the heavy weight of the boat as the hull is constructed out of steel. The boat sees 8knots of speed in 10knots of wind, which is a remarkable achievement for such a dynamic up-coming company. It is evident that the directors of Dagata Marine, are truly keeping their reputation as experts and innovative builders in this specialised trade. The Sang Royal is a unique and outstanding achievement for the company. Dagata Marine welcomes anyone who may require any type of consultancy on similar projects.
